Why does the brake pad monitor light come on eveytime i turn the steering wheel on my passat?

I would suspect that the brake pad warning light wire has lost part of it's outer insulation, When you turn the steering, the wire is most likely shorting to earth which will cause the W/L to illuminate on the dash.
