A port that transmits data eight bits at a time?

A port that handles more than one data bit at a time is a parallel port. The most common example is the printerport (LPT) found on most older computers. The port is designed to transmit and receive 8 bits at a time.

Parallel ports are less common on modern computers as the USB port has now replaced it for the majority of applications.
