Did john tetzel keep the indulgence money for himself?

John Tetzel, a Dominican friar, was known for selling indulgences in the early 16th century, which were believed to reduce punishment for sins. While he earned a commission from the sale of these indulgences, the majority of the funds were intended to support the construction of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
