Answer There is a spray cleaner available at Target stores called "Folex", in a white and purple bottle. We have been amazed by it--it takes out all kinds of carpet stains. Try to spray it on when the stain is still wet, if you catch it in time. Having two dogs, we have also found that purchasing a steam rug cleaner for home use has paid for itself many times over--we have no permanent smells in the carpet.

Answer

Use a solution of white vinegar and water. First, blot up the urine. Then, with a clean cloth dipped into the vinegar/water gently scrub the carpet. Rinse the cloth and do it again, several times. This should solve the problem. Hopefully, your child won't continue doing this, but cleaning the carpet a few times a year will keep it nice.

IF THE URINE HAS DRIED:

Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water, then spray solution on urine stain. Be generous with the amount you use, then use towels to blot it up. You may have to repeat the process 2 or more times, depending on how bad the stain is. Just be sure to blot all the solution up before repeating the process.

To help it dry more quickly and throughly, place a thick layer of paper or cloth towels over the freshly cleaned area, then place a stack of heavy books on top to absorb the solution. Leave overnight, then remove books and towels, and let air dry. The odor should also be gone but if not, you can sprinkle the area with baking soda, let set overnight, then vacuum. Just be sure to let dry completely before using the baking soda.
