What is tobacco mosaic virus?

It is a minute particle having nucleic acid surrounded by core of protein. If these particles come in contact with living cells, multiply very vigoursly and cause mosaic in the plants. These particles were first detected in tobacco plant, hence designated as Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV).
