Why cant you buy things on marapets?

You can, but there are multiple aspects you need to be aware of when buying.

• Price
• Amount you have.
• Currency Type
• Item
• Location of Item

Now they have the security code thing in shops, so you might have overlooked that, but other then that, it is pretty straight forward.

Some items, like those that are in Dukka Caves, require Dukka Coins. In order to buy something, you must have the EXACT dukka coin in order to purchase it.
