There are hardly more ubiquitous construction tools than bucket trucks. These devices are critical when dealing with work requiring overhead lifting, especially at the heights often necessary to work in cramped urban spaces. With other buildings, trees and power lines abundantly spaced at a far enough distance apart so as not to touch each other, there’s hardly enough space left in between for workers to mount ladders or even scissor lifts, which require a firm space under them. In such cases, bucket trucks with extendable boom lifts make completion of a job much easier, and when large parts and fixtures need to be fastened or mounted, they are a perfect match.
Bucket truck boom arms generally extend along a single rotatable axis, meaning that while you can only slide out in one direction at a time, you can change that direction through all dimensions of space. This makes it easy not only to reach high areas, but also far away ones whose nearby surrounds are obstructed by debris, edifices or any of the other objects determined to make your project completion a nightmare. Bucket trucks are often rented out from companies that specialize in the provision of all types of construction equipment, because the cost of owning one is more than just that particular model’s price tag.
Bucket truck bases are simply vehicles that have extendable stabilizing legs with secure foot pads. The operator of the bbucket truck must ensure that these pads are firmly pressed down onto the underlying surface or surrounding earth and that the wheels of the vehicle are lifted off the ground before the arm is extended. This, and the heavy gear box and motors mounted in the center, ensure that the base does not move no matter how far the arm extends in any direction.
Bucket trucks must be maintained regularly, and kept within working safety parameters for continued legal operation. In time such work runs up exorbitant fees, thus the high prevalence of rental companies. Additionally, bucket truck models have differing capacities and feature specialized equipment, such as concrete pouring nozzles and hoses, that may only be of use on a few jobs.
