A turtle cannot be removed from it's shell. The shell is formed from a fusion of the turtle's ribs, spine, and breastbone, with a thin layer of skin, and often scales, covering it. Removing the shell would be the equivalent of taking out all your ribs, your spine, and peeling off all the skin from below your arms down to your waist.
