Before Mark Twain (real name Samuel Langhorne Clemens) became the author that we are familiar with, he started out apprenticing with a printer, then working at a typesetter while contributing articles to his bother's newspaper. He continued working as a printer in many cities until trying his hand at gold mining (of which he was unsuccessful doing) before turning to journalism.
