Helen Keller (1880-1968) was a blind and deaf person who became a college graduate, author and activist. She died on June 1, 1968 and her ashes interred at the Washington National Cathedral.
The famous woman who "disappeared" was pioneer aviator Amelia Earhart (1897-1937?), last seen by the public as she left on her attempt to fly around the world. She and navigator Fred Noonan disappeared in the Pacific Ocean, with no definitive trace of their plane ever found.
