I have a Maltese about 6 pounds and a Yorkie mix about 9 pounds This morining I saw a hawk lurking in a tree in our backyard I now am afraid to let my dogs outside What small animals do hawks eat?

Whatever ones they can get, and small dogs aren't immune unfortunately. It's not likely that a hawk would go after a dog in the open around a house, but to be safe keep an eye on them when outside and keep lights on at night.
