Where does the term praying in praying mantis come from?

They are named praying mantis because of their tyical "prayer-like" stance. The Word mantis derives from the Greek Word mantis for prophet or fortune teller.

I also thin it came from back then when people would say "Don't Let The Bed Bugs Bite"
