during winter, the grizzly bear grows a thick layer fur coat and the air in it traps heat from the surroundings. it also hibernates which is similar to sleeping and its life processes slow down, thus using less energy, for example, its breathing becomes slower. before hibernation, it also eats a lot so it stores fat as a source of energy for the long winter hibernation.
