The acronym IKAROS stands for Interplanetary Kite-craft Accelerated by Radiation Of the Sun. IKAROS is a Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency experimental spacecraft. The space craft was launched on May 21st 2010. It is the first spacecraft to successfully demonstrate solar-sail technology in interplanetary space. IKAROS passed by Venus on December 8th 2010.
