How long after getting a tattoo should you keep it covered?

Every tattoo artist tells you something different... but I kept it wrapped for the first 5 hours.... let it air out.... then for the next 5 nights... wrap it in plastic wrap & ointment... make sure your new tattoo doesnt dry out.
