What causes of turgidity?

Turgidity in plant cells is primarily caused by the uptake of water through osmosis, leading to an increase in internal pressure against the cell wall. When water enters the vacuole, it creates a hydrostatic pressure that supports the plant's structure, keeping it firm and upright. Additionally, the presence of solutes within the cell can influence water movement, enhancing turgor pressure. Without adequate water, cells can become flaccid, resulting in wilting.
