It takes a very long time to get it off. You hold the top with a 15mm open end wrench with the handle over top of the coil spring. Then you turn the shock body with a 17mm wrench up near the top. It will probably be very rusty. You can only turn the shock 1/6 of a turn at a time and there are a lot of threads.
After I finally got the top off, I broke the bottom post off trying to get the nut off.
