The largest jellyfish is the lion's mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata), which can have a bell diameter of up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) and tentacles that can extend over 100 feet (30 meters) long. Found primarily in the cold waters of the Arctic and North Atlantic oceans, its long tentacles are equipped with stinging cells used for capturing prey. Despite its size, the lion's mane jellyfish is generally not considered dangerous to humans, although its sting can be painful.
