The Boeing X-51 is still in its testing stages, and has recently completed its first free flight. Its design speed is Mach 7+, but the test did not run as long as scheduled and no "final" data was released. This experimental craft is unmanned.
No airbreathing, manned jet-propelled aircraft has ever even approached the cruising speed of the the SR-71 Blackbird. The Blackbird's maximum speed, often quoted at Mach 3.2, is officially classified to this day. It still holds the world speed record. Simply amazing.
