Basically both these two terms, lubricants and oil are used interchangeably. The term lubricant refers to the functioning quality of the product. But the term oil refers to a more concrete usage. Engine runs on oil but non engine oils like transmission, shock absorber and Power Steering fluids are commonly referred as lubricants.
