What Is Global Service Medical Billing?

A "global service" in medical billing is for instances in which a medical provider can bill one HCPCS or CPT procedure code for services that could other wise be billed individually. For instance an emergency physician can bill for 99284 which is a code for the Emergency room, instead of billing for reading x-rays, interpreting ECGs, speaking with patient, reviewing medical history, etc.

"global service" also applies when a provider provides both the professional and technical aspect of a certian procedure. Example: a doctor takes the x-rays in his office and interprets them as well.
