What does a male bee do?

A male bee, also called a drone, has only one purpose in life: to mate with a new queen. It will do no work in the hive. It won't even feed itself, it is fed by the workers.

At the end of summer the queen will stop laying so there can't be any new queens until the next season. Because of this the drones have no purpose, and would just be a drain on resources over the winter, so the workers will throw all drones out of the hive and they will die.
