A polar bear can go for several months without eating, as it does every year, when the sea is unfrozen, so it cannot hunt for seals. During this time (about one to three months, between late summer and early fall), it lives off the fat reserves that it developed during the rest of the year. However, global warming is causing the ice to be frozen for a longer period of time, so polar bears' endurance is being seriously tested.
