How to choose plants for landscaping

The landscaping at your home can make your house look beautiful or rugged. In order to get your landscaping to look the way that you want it to, you might need to hire someone to help you. You can also follow these simple ideas to create a yard that anyone would be proud to call theirs.

The type of plants that you choose for your yard will give your yard color and structure. Dig up any old flowers and shrubs that you might have in the yard before planting new ones. Till the dirt that once held your plants so that the ground has fresh earth to work with. If there are any big plants, use and ax to cut the plant to the stump and then dig the stump out of the ground.

Hydrangeas and magnolias are great plants to work with. They give flower beds an emerald green color, and they don't require a lot of work. Prune the magnolia tree in the summer. Junipers are also great plants to add to a yard. They are large with long leaves. They look best at the base of trees, such as the magnolia. If your soil has a lot of lumps of clay, break the lumps with a shovel before you plant anything else in it.

A green plant should on the outer edge of the flower garden you make. Red geraniums add a lot of color to any flower garden. Don't water the geranium leaves. Instead, you should water the flower as close to the ground as possible. Mix in some begonias with the geraniums to start a pattern in your garden. If you want larger trees in your yard, then try to plant them closer to the house instead of the middle of the yard. You can also plant larger trees on the side of your yard to keep out views from the neighbors. Holly bushes are a good plant to start making a side hedge with.
