What are some characteristics of Dr Carlisle Cullen in Twilight?

Edward Cullen has all of the usual vampire abilities such as granite hard and cold skin, superhuman speed and strength, and he drinks blood though only animal. His special vampire ability is the ability to read minds, although he can't read Bella's. He is also quite old fashioned, having been born in 1901.
