Why was true son adopted by his father cuyloga?

True Son was adopted by his father Cuyloga because he was originally taken by the Lenni Lenape Native American tribe during a raid on his white settler family's home. Cuyloga decided to adopt True Son to replace his own son who had died, and saw potential in True Son to become a member of the tribe.
