How do you get past the guard to get to saffron city in leaf green?

to get past the guard you have to go to the Pokemon mansion in celadon when you enter there is a old lady on the first floor she will give you some tea just go to where on of the guards are and wala you can now use every shortcut there is including the one to saffron city
