In Lord of the Rings does Haldir die in the book?

If you are referring to Haldir the marchwarden in the movies, he died at the Battle of Helm's Deep, which took place at the end of second installment, The Two Towers. However, this is completely inaccurate as Haldir or his elves of Lorien never went near Helm's Deep. Following with the book, we can assume he was involved in the defence of Lothlorien against the three assaults. But he didn't die.
