Jim Valvano was an American Basketball player, coach, and sports broadcaster, best known for his time as the head coach of North Carolina State University's men's basketball team. He led the Wolfpack to an improbable victory in the 1983 NCAA Tournament, securing the school's first championship in 1983. Valvano is also celebrated for his inspiring speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards, where he emphasized the importance of hope, love, and perseverance in the face of terminal cancer. He founded the V Foundation for Cancer Research, which continues to fund cancer research today.
