sounds like a short, or a bad ground.

I have found that everyone with a digital readout in their Chevy Blazer has this problem. It is faulty sauldering in the electronic computer panel located in your steering column. I had my dad resaulder all the connections at work, and they seem to work well after that.

Every GM digital dash of that era has this issue. Just like any electrical circuit the caps and/or resistors go bad. For a permanent fix you can get used repaired motherboards for about $35 on Ebay. By the way, set aside a large chuk of time to get the dash apart. It's a bugger.

Another Thought for anCheck the fuses, I believe it is the "Gauges" or "Illumination" fuses. This may not be the problem, but it doesn't hurt to check simple stuff before spending a lot of money and time.
