Do you have to use the same kind of turbo or are they interchangable 1986 Toyota 4 runner turbo 22re?

if the flanges match up for the exhaust side and the dump pipe then there is no problem. you will also need to see if the oil and water ( where applicable because some turbos dont have water cooling ) lines match up and are secure.
