People survived tuberculosis (TB) primarily through a combination of medical treatment and lifestyle changes. In the past, sanatoriums provided rest, fresh air, and nutritious food, which were believed to aid recovery. With the advent of antibiotics, particularly streptomycin in the 1940s, effective treatment became available, drastically improving survival rates. Today, a combination of antibiotics and proper medical care, along with public health measures, continues to reduce TB-related mortality.
