What is the lifespan of a 2003 VW Jetta TDI?

I have seen reports of 250,000+

I junked mine today at 138k. Cracked cylinder wall, allowing coolant to enter into combustion chamber. Shame, was a lot of life left in the car, but a rebuild was too much for what that car's worth...Undecided if I'll buy another, still have 2010 TDI.
