Was the fur trade good for Canada?

I sorta know. In the Atlantic Canada region people moved from Europe in the 1800's to set up fishing, coal, farming industry's. And hunters when to hunt moose, beavers, and dear for the fur trade. It all helped build the Canadian economy.
