What did franz kafka invent?

As far as I know, Kafka did not invent anything in the literal sense. Kafka was an author whose books usually focused on the ineffectiveness of bureaucracy. As a result of his strangely detached writings and surrealistic novels, Kafka garnered many followers. He has been considered an existentialist by some, a socialist by others and occasionally a communist. His novel The Trial, has been used to help interpret and symbolize various facets of law. Many considered his social/political observations to be ahead of his time and, as a consequence, his writings are very influential in modern literature and law.
