What was the original term for the battery?

Around 1800 Count Alessandro Volta invented a wet battery called a Voltaic Pile and later John Frederic Daniell invented the Daniell Cell in 1836, which was a big improvement in the battery.

So the original term for the battery was a Volatic Pile.
