How long do dolphin babies nurse?

Bottlenose dolphin calves are typically weaned after 18 months. However, some may stay with the mother and continue to nurse for several years!

However, if the mother becomes pregnant again, she will stop nursing the calves at about 6 months into pregnancy (about half the gestation period).
