A wanderer finds a hidden valley in the Andes of South America where all the residence are blind. He tries to acquaint them with the virtues of sight but is scoffed at. All the things that he Excels at are discounted as luck, everything that he is inferior at is emphasized to his shame. It is finally decided that he is to be blinded to make him a better person. He abandons the valley.
