How can you make yourself smart?

Read books. (History, Science, etc)

Learn people skills. Hang around with people who are smarter and are at a better place in life than you and learn from them.

Go out and experience different things. Sure you can read books but if you DO you will learn better and be smart.

Watch History Channel, Discovery Channel, etc.
