Where does the surname jervase come from?

It is an old Norman name, dating back a thousand years, as a first name as well as a surname. "Jervase" is a phonetic rewrite (or corruption, if you will) of the Norman "Gervais". Gervais in turn has developed from the name of a Saint named Gervasius.
