In this question, you are not being specific enough... But if you were a man at the home front and got lucky enough to avoid the draft, u could have a number of jobs. The number of fatories switching to making war supplies increased greatly, so that would be a good option. But more than likely, they would keep their normal job that they had before the war broke out.
But if you were unable to avoid the draft, or if you were previously enlisted, you would more then likely go to the front. If they were lucky enough, they could get a job as a electritian, mechanic, etc. But normally those jobs were given to the soldiers that were previously enlisted...
