The dung beetle feeds primarily on dung as well as mushrooms and decayed fruits and leaves. The beetle finds nourishment using an acute sense of smell. Some of the smaller species actually attach themselves to the dung-providers which can include herbivores and omnivores. These insects live in a variety of habitats including forests, grasslands and desert.
