Why is jewelry important?

Traditionally, jewels, beads and precious metals represent social status and position.

The ancient Egyptians also saw jewelry as having magic or spiritual significance, and made glass replicas of precious stones in various colors. Egyptians of both sexes wore amulets of various materials throughout their lives, and these were replaced with other ornate designs for burial.
