Between the 1400s and 1600s, the Venetians were primarily engaged in conflicts with the Ottoman Empire, as they sought to maintain and expand their trade routes and territorial holdings in the eastern Mediterranean. They also fought against rival Italian city-states, such as the Duchy of Milan and the Republic of Florence, during various wars for dominance in northern Italy. Additionally, the Venetians participated in the Habsburg-Venetian Wars against the Habsburg Monarchy over control of territories in the Adriatic region.
