A head of cabbage weight

According to the New York Times (very old archives), an average cabbage weighs about 2 pounds. However, according to ChaCha, the average weight of a cabbage is about 3 to 4 pounds. So I would go with 3 pounds. Next time you're at the grocery store, you might try weighing a few to see for yourself what they weigh.

One large head of cabbage is about 7.00 inches in diameter and weighs 1,248 grams, which equals 2.7514 pounds.

One medium head of cabbage is about 5.75 inches in diameter and weighs 908 grams, which equals 2.0018 pounds.

One small head of cabbage is about 4.50 inches in diameter and weighs 714 grams, which equals 1.5741 pounds.

Therefore, people who pay Costco about $5.49 plus sales tax for a clear plastic bag that contains 2 heads of cabbage are not getting a good deal because the combined weight of 2 medium heads of cabbage is only 4 pounds. That's $1.37 plus sales tax per pound. We can get a much better deal than that from any supermarket.
