Maria Goeppert Mayer arrived in America in 1930. She moved to the United States to pursue her academic career after completing her doctoral studies in Germany. Mayer became a prominent physicist, eventually winning the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1963 for her work on the structure of atomic nuclei.
