Why did the souls decide to help Mrs Olinski in the view from Saturday book?

They wanted Mrs. Olinski to not be humiliated by people because of her paraplegic state. For example, Hamilton Knapp, who asked her to write higher on the board. She could not because she always sat in her wheelchair.
