An adenoid is a mass of lymphatic tissue located at the back of the nasal cavity, above the roof of the mouth. It plays a role in the immune system, helping to trap pathogens that enter through the nose. Adenoids can become enlarged, especially in children, leading to breathing difficulties, ear infections, or sleep apnea. In some cases, surgical removal may be necessary if they cause significant health issues.
