Deep sea fish are adapted to extreme pressures found in their natural habitat, which can be hundreds of times greater than atmospheric pressure at the surface. When these fish are brought to the surface, the rapid decrease in pressure causes their bodies to expand and can lead to the rupture of internal organs and tissues. Additionally, the change in temperature and light conditions can further stress these organisms, contributing to their mortality.
