How did Great Danes get their breed name?

Danes were originally used as raiders in Egypt. Brought out by one trainer he would routinely have a pack of 10-25 dogs and would use them to heard and exhaust travelers roaming across the desert.

Later on they were shipped across Europe for an assortment of tasks all of which pertained to herding or security.

Great Danes are their own sub set of Dog.

Genetics relate to both mastiffs and wolf hounds, But they are their own sub species!
